Even although it is 3:20 am, I feel inspired to write something down concerning my process in painting.

For the past 9 or so years ( not that I paint full-time), my work has  been concerned with the mark of man on the landscape.  Many of the  paintings executed during this time depicted urban decay, mining  wastelands or land ownership as subjects.

For a long time I have been trying to find a bridging process that could lead me to a way of  depicting a healing process, where the land is transformed and humans  regain their dignity, or at best, find spiritual enlightenment.  I  have touched on a spiritual theme within the landscape, but the
healing process eluded me until recently.

Over the years I have been  researching the notion of artist as healer, therefore touched on  subjects such as the prehistoric shaman, spirituality, philosophy and  theosophy. Finally, I decided to look into alchemy and within its  broad spectrum, I am convinced, have found, not only a process to transform a scarred landscape, but a subject matter that finally combines my fascination with both the physical and spiritual realms.

As I progress by stages through the vast myriad of subject  matter  within alchemy, I intend to keep a clear record of the  thoughts and images that grow out ot this process.

Although alchemy is too multifaceted to be defined, this quote by  Jean Dubuis gives an indication of the vastness.

'Alchemy is the art of manipulating life, and consciousness in matter, to help it evolve, or to solve problems of inner disharmonies.'
